2012 Oscar Fashion Recap

Oscars, aka The Academy Awards, is a time for Hollywood’s elite to put together glamorous and walk down the red carpet before saluting the year’s most incredible work. While the men always slip into tuxedos, it is the women that stand out with their dresses. Here’s my recap of the 2012 Oscar gowns.

First let’s star by shouting out A.R. Rahman for being part of the band who he called a “superband” with his Facebook post.

The Oscars tend to be a time of a couple of trends which is why I have been able to categorize dresses in a couple categories. Let’s start with the blues. Tina Fey was quite mature in her navy Carolina Herrera dress which was in the peplum silhouette. Tina carries it with grace, but I wanted something more; love the hair though! Penelope Cruz donned a paler shade of blue with this Giorgio Armani number. The dress fits incredibly and I cannot picture anyone else in this dress!

Moving on we had a couple purple dresses which all popped on the red carper. Virginia Madsen’s purple dress is designed by Kevan Hall, while i love the color, the cut and style of this gown don’t blow me away. I had no expectations from Maya Rudolph, but I quite like her Johanna Johnson dress. I have heard mixed reviews and reactions, but I am a fan. Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland wore Alberta Feretti. I am so glad she wore color and kept the whole look young because she is! 20 year olds in mature gown doesn’t work just as 40 year olds in prom gowns is a crime.

Next up are the ladies in red(ish). Michelle Williams wore a coral Louis Vuitton gown which made everyone’s best dressed list. I think if I saw it in person I would be sold, right now I’m on the fence. Natalie Portman is one who always picks the wrong dress in my opinion. This year’s Dior Haute Couture is no different, it looks like a prom dress. Lastly is Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture. The dress looks like it is choking her or she is a Christmas present. Either way, Nicole Kidman did a similar look which was discussed more than Emma.

Nude, white, clean, and chic is the next lot of gowns. Cameron Diaz chose Gucci which I think she carried quite well. The short hair is a great accessory and the dress has great movement. Jennifer Lopez is a hot mess. Tight huge bun – dated, deep V neck – nipple exposed, sleeve cut outs – put net lining, designer Zuhair Murad and JLo did not make a good impression at all! Gwyneth Paltrow chose a white Tom Ford look which had a cape. When Madonna tried the cape look in black she was almost there, Gwyneth had it smack on and I appreciated her not wearing it on stage.

The golden girls were Meryl Streep and Stacey Keibler, both misses in my opinion. Meryl won for Best Actress, though the dress sparkled beautifully, the shape of the dress was nothing special and the Oscar blended right in with the gown. Stacey, the arm candy for George Clooney, donned Marchesa. The dress seemed to make Stacey uncomfortable and the swirled flower would look better on someone with hips.

Two dresses I loved were Octavia Spencer’s Tadashi Shoji which was sparkly, amazingly made, and perfection in every way! Sandra Bullock’s Marchesa is getting a lot of smack but i love it. The loose draped top with a black fitted bottom all accentuated with waist embroidery, she looks great.

The daring gowns of the night go to two strong ladies. Angelina Jolie arrived in a black Atelier Versace dress. Her tone legs were the highlight as the dress had a drastic split. With constantly having to push out her knee and pose, Angelina looked like she was trying too hard. Viola Davis arrived in her natural hair and stark green Vera Wang dress. While I love the color, the top half of the dress is not flattering and I was afraid of a wardrobe malfunction.

Honorable mention goes to Miss Piggy for pulling out all the stops with her white dress and jewels!

Bipasha Basu and R Madhavan Walk Rocky S Ramp

Bipasha Basu and R Madhavan walked the ramp for Rocky S’ WIFW AW’12 fashion show. With Rocky being a good friend of Bipasha’s it was nice to see her lending her support and a little plug for the film Jodi Breakers didn’t hurt.

2012 Grammy Fashion Recap

Sunday, February 13, many tuned into the Grammy Awards to find out you was the hottest artist of 2011…and the winner was Adele. Awards aside, the fashion last night was interesting, to say the least. Here’s my take on the 2012 Grammy red carpet.

Katy Perry donned two looks at the Grammy this year. She walked the red carpet in a Elle Saab blue dress. With the blue hair, the whole look was too “matchy-matchy” and Katy looks like a smurf. After her performance, Katy slipped on a gold down and crimped her hair. The gold dress was nice, but the hair is so last decade.

Lady GaGa made a very quiet entrance into the 2012 Grammys, but we all spotted her in the audience wearing a custom black Chanel outfit. With her face behind a black, fishnet veil, the whole look is quirky yet subdued for Gaga.

Country’s hottest ladies came in gold. Taylor Swift donned a Zuhair Murad gown while Miranda Lambert wore a Pavoni dress. Both looks were pretty, but nothing jaw dropping.

Rihanna was a knock out in her Armani black gown. She showed plenty of skins without being too hoochie. The blonde wavy hair the perfect accessory! #winner

Julianne Hough is a stunner in her black embellished dress by Kaufman Franco. I love this one.

Fergie was a mess at the Grammys. She wore a neon dollie and underwear.

An even bigger mess was Nicki Minaj in her Versace red cape, down. She entered the Grammy with a pope impersonator and it was not cool. The attire linked to Nicki’s Grammys performance which was…interesting and not well received. #epicfail

As for the Desi representation, Jay Sean grew his hair and Priyanka Chorpa slipped into a wedding gown. Cannot wait for the real Desis to represent our culture with swag.

Janina left little for the imagination in this Gaurav Gupta dress, only at the Grammys. Janina always looks hot.

Sophie Chourdy Models Couture

Sophie Choudry was invited to model Manav Gangwani’s new collection and it is stunning! Check out Sophie’s video footage from the shoot to see what I mean.

Mallika Sherawat Walks Down the Aisle

Mallika Sherawat walks down the aisle! Well a fashion runaway dressed as a bride, and she’s stunning. Designers Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor had chosen Mallika as their showstopper and she was a good pick.

Freida Pinto and Dev Patel at TIFF

Freida Pinto and Dev Patel attended the Toronto International Film Festival arm in arm and looked fantastic!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Arrives Solo At Cannes Film Festival

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan arrives solo at the Cannes Film Festival! Usually this diva has her husband on her arm or some girlfriends nearby, but this year she struts alone. For day one of this prestigious event, Ash wears an Elie Saab gown which is beautifully embroidered. Because Ash’s body is not toned up and the cut of this gown is not the most flattering, I’m sure we’ll be hearing baby rumors soon enough.

The dress is pretty, but I think Ash could have found something that better complimented her figure. Her hair and makeup, on the other hand, are perfection. I’m not a fan of this beauty queen, but her overall look took my breath away.

Check out the pictures and let me know your reaction to this look.
